Web Album

This was easy for me because I already have a web album/family website. It is a Shutterfly family website and my site's name is Wagner Babies. There are pictures of mostly my daughter, but also my stepson and fiance. Enjoy.

Photoshop Express

I really liked the Photoshop Express activity. The site was easy to navigate and uploading and editing my photo only took a few minutes. My photo was edited by adding a pop of color which is the green in the background and changing the photo to a sketch.I also added some text onto the photo. I thought the end result was very cute. Check out my Photoshop album photo.

Crappy Graphics

My graphic is a venn diagram that compares forms of transportation. You can find my diagram at Crappy Graphics or check it out right here.

This site was pretty easy although you could not fit very much information into the diagram.

Charts and Graphs

Our assignment was the following:

Your job is to create and publish an online document that contains some charts. There numerous online resources for this activity including Kid's Zone

  1. Chart 1 should compare the 4th grade National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) math scores for West Virginia compared to the national average for years 2000 through 2007. Write a brief statement of what you can conclude about West Virginia's performance.
  2. Chart 2 should compare the number of students currently on an IEP for West Virginia and the next 3 poorest states based on per capita income. The source is a little dated but the trend is consistent. Write a brief statement of what you can conclude about West Virginia's student population in this category relative to its per capita income neighbors.
  3. Create a blog post summarizing the activity and include a link to the graphing tool, and the location of where your data came from.

Activity Outcomes: Student can create, integrate, publish, interpret, and discuss a graphic images using line or bar charts.

Looking at the information for WV's fourth grade math scores from http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/states/ it can be seen that although WV falls below the National Average in Math, the numbers are very close. Check out my graph http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddwjzpmc_6c7ndx4h6

WV is one of the poorer states, but by looking at the enrollment of students, WV does have one of the highest percentages of students on an IEP. My graph can be found http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddwjzpmc_8d4qgjcfj.

I created my graphs http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/graphing/classic/ the site was very easy to create graphs and I wish I would have known about it before because it would have saved me alot of time.

Image Capture

  1. Create a graphic from a screen grab.
  2. Edit your image using Paint. explore the selection tool, the eyedropper tools, the paintbrush tool.
  3. Create a post on your blog that describes: the program you used, the file properties of your graphic including file type or graphic format, the size, the method by which you acquired your graphic, and the the file type.
  4. Include at least ideas on how you may incorporate these types of images in the conduct of your class to improve student learning.

I was looking for coloring pages for my little sister and found a Tinkerbell coloring sheet and decided to edit the image. I saved the picture by right clicking on my mousepad and saved the image as a .gif file. The size of the image was 15.31 KB. I edited my image in paint and used the selection tool to move around some stars that were on the picture. I used the paint bucket to fill in some color on the background and Tinkerbell herself. I didn't go into and try and fix the spots, but know from previous experience that if you zoom in on the photo you can fix a lot of details and make it look very neat. I used the text option to put the words Tinkerbell and my name on the photo. I also began my image by cropping out the lower part of Tinkerbell's body.

I could use images and edit them to what I need in the classroom. For example if I had a really great photo, but maybe there was some objectional parts in the photo, I could edit out anything that I may not want to show. I could fix colors and add text to tell more of a story with the photo.

Students would also enjoy being able to play with a photo and make it their own. I think the paint program is and easy way to learn. I do have Photoshop on my computer, but have not really had a lot of time to work with it.

Graphic Assignment

I know that this assignment was due last night, but due to Mother Nature and her great winds, I unfortunately lost power. I have a laptop, but was not anticipating the power outage lasting so long and used my hour and a half of battery life watching Dora with my daughter who got a little scared not having any lights, but the candles. She's first. :O) Anyway, my graphic is something that can be used in a newsletter to my students parents. Its just a teacher graphic I found and changed the teacher's name to my name. I tried messing around with the color on paint, but kept making it worse. I'm not really that talented in editing things, so here is what I have. Enjoy.

Dale's Cone of Experience

Dale's Cone of Experience starts from the top where the concepts like reading and listening are in the small part of the cone and are very limiting. The percentage of learning at the top of the cone is very low. As one reads down the cone and the person is actually participating in the action such as in participating in discussions and doing simulations, then the person is actually learning and experiencing more.

I think to an extent it is logical, but maybe not factual. I think it all depends on how an individual learns and can't be based on a whole group of people. We have been taught that our students all learn different ways whether they are auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners. I personally am more of a visual and a kinesthetic learner. I would rather try to do things hand on then have someone try to tell me what to do because most of the time I just block out what they are saying and go and figure it out on my own.

FTP

I have previously had a little experience with FTP when I took Instructional Technology, but have not used it since then. I had a little trouble at first getting my link to work, but I think that now it is up and running. I have tried it a few times and had no problems getting it to work.

Here is my link to my FTP site.

Web Publishing

This web publishing was pretty easy I think. Here is my link to my resume.

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddwjzpmc_1fjszgtms

The link is also clickable under my frequent sites. It is listed as web publishing assignment.

I have been trying to do the FTP assignment. That is a different story. Hope I figure it out.
